Materials Management Lead

Primary Role

The Materials Management Lead is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Material Handlers, and controlling all inventory and warehousing functions. This position is also responsible for creating and documenting departmental processes and their implementation. This position supports the Materials Management Supervisor in achieving departmental and Company goals and objectives, measured using KPIs, and related to inventory control accuracy and quality.

Day-to-day '" Materials Management

      • Lead warehouse personnel including, create staffing plans and/or schedules
      • Ensure adherence to corporate policies/procedures by both permanent and temporary staff
      • Assist in evaluation and execution of new hires and terminations.
      • Ensure accuracy of inventory through cycle counts, yearly counts, and proper transactions within the ERP system.
      • Ensure comprehensive receiving and picking processes are followed to ensure inventory accuracy.
      • Research and report root causes of inventory discrepancies, and prevent chronic inaccuracies by applying best-practice to inventory transactions.
      • Accurately maintain warehouse organization, including accurate bin locations, ease of conducting inventory counts, for accurate verification of parts.
      • Ensure effective storage of material to increase efficiency and safety within the warehouse.
      • Regularly report KPI's as defined by Materials Management Supervisor
      • Keep the warehouse/inventory tidy and organized at all times, utilizing both proven and experimental strategies (5S, LEAN, Six Sigma, etc.).
      • Monitor inventory stock levels in concert under the direction of the Materials Management Supervisor
      • Ensure all transactions are input into the ERP system in real time.
      • Perform physical inventory and cycle counts.
      • Identify and report on slow moving and obsolete materials. Liaise with internal group on engineering change notices to ensure proper inventory dispositions are adhered to.
      • Liaise with Finance group on any Materials Management discrepancies
      • Work overtime and/or on call as needed to meet objectives and deadlines.
      • Perform all duties so as to meet the responsibilities listed in the health and safety handbook and the Company's quality system procedures and work instructions.

Strategic Initiatives

      • Work with Materials Management Supervisor and internal Supply Chain resources ensure satisfaction of internal customers
      • Leads Materials Management 6S initiatives, and collaborates with the 6S task force on setting and achieving daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly goals
      • Push all regular inventory to Point-Of-Use locations
      • Lead setup of VMI and KanBan processes, along with physical implementation
      • Ensure best practice and all documented processes are consistently followed; make suggestions on how to improve
      • Develop procedures and maintain standards on best practices; improve the methodologies currently in use.

Process Improvements

      • Regularly review all documented procedures to ensure adherence among all staff
      • Lead and sustain incoming quality check processes
      • Collaborate with the Quality department to ensure Materials Management processes and documentation (flow charts, procedures, work instructions, records) are in compliance with ISO 9001 standard

Education/experience

      • Minimum 3 years' experience in Supply Chain / Manufacturing role
      • Bachelor's Degree preferred (Supply Chain Management/Industrial Engineering or similar)

      • Ability to lead staff to drive continuous improvement in a positive, fast-paced work environment.
      • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers and managers within and across organization lines, including Manufacturing, Procurement, Planning, QA, Engineering, Solutions, EHS, Customer Service and Human Resources
      • Ability to pay close attention to detailed dates and other project information, using any and all tools available.
      • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
      • Ensure appropriate communication, including language, tone, style and structure.
      • Ability to foster a safe work environment through the teaching of safe work practices/habits, including WHIMIS and PPE codes of practice
      • Ability to manage multiple tasks of competing priority simultaneously, efficiently and independently.
      • Work well individually and as a team member.
      • Must excel in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
      • Ability to drive and maintain target dates.
      • Demonstrated ability to formulate solutions and resolve issues in a timely manner.

Nice To Haves

      • Supply Chain designations (SCMP/CPP/PMAC or Other)
      • Experience in a Manufacturing environment
      • Knowledge of best practice materials management tools
      • Familiarity with Project Management fundamentals
      • Familiarity with Process Improvements fundamentals
